Managing Director, Head of the Aladdin Product Group, BlackRock
Joseph Kochansky, Managing Director, Head of the Aladdin Product Group (APG), is responsible for defining and implementing the vision for the Aladdin platform used globally by BlackRock and many of BlackRock's largest clients. APG’s team of over 1,300 developers and technology professionals continually enhance Aladdin including functionality for the investment process, client management and corporate needs. Mr. Kochansky is chair of the Aladdin Product Group Executive Committee and a member of BlackRock’s Global Operating Committee.
Mr. Kochansky has been with BlackRock for over two decades in a variety of leadership roles within technology, analytics and portfolio management. Prior to assuming his current role, he was head of APG’s Portfolio Management Tools group which builds sophisticated analytical and order generation tools across asset classes and investment styles including fundamental, quantitative, asset allocation and indexing. He was also co-head of the BlackRock Solutions (BRS) Analytics team responsible for risk analytic solutions and continually evolving Aladdin’s financial modeling capabilities. Mr. Kochansky served as Head of Equity Trading for the Americas for two years which included responsibility for cash equities, program trading, equity derivatives, and international coverage.
From 1998 to 2007, Mr. Kochansky was the co-head of BlackRock's Aladdin Product Development Group in the early days of the BRS business. From 1995 to 1998, he was a member of the Fixed Income Portfolio Management Group, where he traded structured products including asset-backed securities, adjustable rate mortgages and other short duration mortgage products. Additionally, Mr. Kochansky worked closely with the portfolio management team for three years building bond analytics and Aladdin’s risk reporting platform. Before joining BlackRock in 1992, he spent two years as a consultant in the Financial Markets Division of Andersen Consulting.
Mr. Kochansky earned a BA degree in economics from Duke University in 1990.
